The college was established on 2nd September, 1968 with the joint effort of Smt. Addepalli Vivekananda Devi, a great educationalist and dynamic social worker and Sri Krovvidi Lingaraju, a freedom fighter of the locality. The college has been named after the wife of Sri Kandukuri Veeresalingam, a social reformer and writer of the locality who donated all his lifetime earnings to Hithakarini Samaj which owns the college along with a few educational institutions from K.G. to P.G. level, in different fields of education. The college had a humble beginning in thatched huts in hired plot with 27 students and 15 teachers. Sri P.V. Narasimha Rao, the then Education Minister of Andhra Pradesh and later Prime Minister of India laid the foundation stone of the college. The college was shifted to the present premises in 1970.
The college was started as a private un-aided college and got the Grant-In-Aid status from Andhra Pradesh State Government in 1973. It has been recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and included under 2(f) and 12(B) list in 1973. Over a period of 50 years the institution has reached a level comparable to any other good college in the State. The institution is extending yeoman service to a large number of poor rural girls of the Godavari Districts by providing quality higher education at nominal cost.
The vision of the college is depicted in the emblem “Where women are respected, there shrines the God”, which is illustrative of the status that should be given to women in the society. The college offers B.A., B.Com., B.Sc., courses (Traditional, Vocational/ Computers and Restructured) and M.Sc., Zoology. It also offers empowerment programmes and value based education to attain this goal.

The College owes much to the First Principal Miss K.Rukmini who was here on deputation. She streamlined the administration and worked for the all-round development of the college till 1973. When the college was admitted into Grant-In-Aid, Smt. L.Buchi Sundari then took charge as principal. Since then, the College has been progressing on all fronts, largely due to the efforts of citizens, well-wishers, donors, philonthropists and elite of Rajamahendravam.

We are indebted to all those who who have assisted in the growth of the college and trust that they will continue to give their unstinted support even in the future.

Students are adding many more feathers in the cap of the college by getting University ranks and many other awards.
